Essential Functions: 
  • Has knowledge of all aspects of LOPA’s organ and tissue referral processes, recovery processes, and procedures, including but not limited to LOPA’s aftercare family support services 
  • Maintains an understanding of LOPA’s clinical triggers and referral criteria. Is able to educate hospital staff on the importance of a timely referral. 
  • Responds to referrals, as defined in LOPA policy and procedure 
  • Accesses hospital electronic medical records to review pertinent medical history and clinical course to establish and validate patient suitability for organ donation 
  • Effectively communicate with the appropriate hospital staff, in an acute care setting, regarding the current status of a potential donor, their family’s understanding of prognosis, and the current plan of care. (Donation Assessment Huddle) 
  • Effectively communicates pertinent and time-sensitive referral information with appropriate LOPA staff 
  • Can identify early family support triggers when GOC or BD exams are planned and notify appropriate LOPA staff promptly 
  • Is a resource to assigned hospitals for all needs related to organ and tissue donation, maintains a consistent presence in assigned hospitals as required and needed, building and strengthening relationships while addressing any needs 
  • Accesses the donor registry and prints the registry form when applicable. 
  • May support donor family throughout flag raising, honor walks, and DCD OR with family present 
  • Support onsite rounding and remote organ referral rounding/follow-up when the regional ORC manages an active donor case. 
  • Utilizes discretion and sensitivity concerning the circumstances, views, and beliefs of others in all interactions, including but not limited to donor families. 
Job Role Expectations: 
  • Adheres to all current LOPA policies 
  • Maintains effective communication with the agency’s essential departments: Quality, HR, Education, Development, Finance, and Community. 
  • Attends required department meetings, educational opportunities, and other relevant meetings. 
  • Completes all Q-Pulse and Traincaster assignments as required. 
  • Maintains usability of all designated EMR access regardless of usage needs. 
  • Participates in hospital staff and community education. 
  • Participates in at least one community event per year.
